The “Poker Face” hit maker was booked to perform her hit “Do What U Want” on the show, but she surprised the audience when she was joined on stage by Aguilera after the song’s first chorus.
The pair strutted around the stage in matching 1970s-inspired outfits as part of a star-packed installment of the show, which also featured performances from Celine Dion, Ne-Yo and OneRepublic.
Explaining the collaboration to host Carson Daly, Gaga said, “Well I was really excited because The Voice called and wanted me to perform on the finale. … I said I’ll do it, but I want to know if Christina will do it with me.”
Aguilera added, “This is the first time we’ve ever met and I have to say, when I heard she wanted to collaborate I said, ‘Of course! Lady Gaga!’ I’ve been waiting to meet her. She’s such an innovative artist and a risk taker and as a fellow female, I have so much respect for that.”
Two singers were previously rumored to have been embroiled in an online feud after Aguilera was accused of copying Gaga’s look when she launched her 2010 album “Bionic.” Gaga has previously called the controversy “unfair” and apologized for the comparisons.
