What Were The Biggest Surprises From Today’s Golden Globe Nominations?

It just wouldn’t be award season without us scratching our heads over some of the decisions made by the Hollywood Foreign Press as they announce the Golden Globe nominations. Even though the show stands as a bellwether for the Academy Awards, the Globes always manage either to leave some lauded performers out of the running or to highlight some questionable choices. There are also some good surprises too, which may signal a general shift in what Hollywood wants to offer us — and what we’re demanding.

Some of the biggest films of the year, like 12 Years A Slave starring Chiwetel Ejiofor, made a huge impact with seven nominations, while fan favorites like Mad Men were nowhere to be found.

So what were the most epic surprises stemming from this morning’s nomination announcement? Browse through our gallery to see the top five shocking stories that emerged today, and don’t forget to weigh in on the noms in the comments section.

It doesn’t matter if you’re disappointed that your beloved film got snubbed or if your favorite actor is leading the pack, you should definitely tune in to the ceremony to see how it all shakes out. If nothing else, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler will keep you entertained!
