The singer started dating “The Hunger Games” hunk Hemsworth in 2009, when she was 17, and they announced their engagement in June, 2012,
when she was still a teenager.
However, the couple became dogged by rumors of trouble in the romance months before the stars officially split in September, and now Cyrus is
opening up about her love life to Barbara Walters.
In an interview for the upcoming TV special Barbara Walters Presents: The 10 Most Fascinating People of 2013, the superstar admits critics were right when they claimed she was too young to settle down, but she was too scared to face up to the facts.
She says, “I was so scared of ever being alone, and I think, conquering that fear, this year, was actually bigger than any other transition that I
had, this entire year.
“I don’t ever want to have to need someone again, where you feel like, without them, you can’t be yourself.”
She continues, “I don’t think I realized what 19 truly is, and I got engaged at 19, and I definitely wouldn’t change being engaged. It was so fun
wearing a fat rock for a few years. But now, I just feel like I can actually be happy. I wait for those moments of silence, when I’m just at my house, by myself.”
Despite finding solace in her time alone, Cyrus insists she would love to marry one day – but only when the time is right.
She adds, “I think I’ll want that (marriage) in the times that it needs to be.”
Barbara Walters Presents: The 10 Most Fascinating People of 2013 airs on Wednesday.
